Back in 2009, Dell gave me a credit line and I had my eye on a laptop to use as my primary home computer. Previous to that I had never owned a laptop. I know that sounds rather unusual for a web developer and SEO, but that was the case due to circumstances.

I was looking though Dell’s Outlet on their site and seen an overwhelming number of laptops with a whole range of prices. I did not want to break the bank, and I did not want an overkill of features that I would never use. I’m not much of a gamer, so I wasn’t looking for a gaming laptop. The dual cores were still fairly new and I wanted that as feature for sure and needed a decent sized hard drive. Also, RAM was a factor so I had that in mind as I was looking through the available stock.

The laptop I decided on in the outlet was a 1525 Dell Inspiron. It had the Intel dual-core processor, 2 gigabytes of RAM, and a 160 gigabyte hard drive. The bonus was that it had a yellow case. For those that know me, I have an admiration for the color yellow, hence the yellow Pontiac Aztek. So, I called Dell to order the item because I prefer to do larger purchases with some human interaction. The Dell rep was very helpful and she offered me a new Inspiron with 4 gigabytes RAM for $50 dollars less that the item listed in the outlet. Score!

I’ve had the laptop for 3 years and have since upgraded the operation system to Windows 7 Ultimate and replace the stock battery with a ridiculously huge 9-cell battery. Honestly, aside for a lack-luster video card, I couldn’t be happier. It has all the inputs and outputs I need for media. The HDMI out is great for playing movies right to the TV. Also, I run virtual machines for my different development environments without considerable lag. All and all it’s been a nice laptop and I’m going to hold onto it and has a critical hardware failure. It’s been good to me.
