2007 Adobe MAX Recap Day 2

Adobe Max 2007Its been a long day, but it was packed with good stuff. First off, ColdFusion 9 is in the works and its apparent Adobe is standing behind the product for the foreseeable future. Today was the Sneaks session as well as the big event party.

Lets start with the event party since I just got back to my room. Its had a 80s 90s and 2000s theme to correlate with the decades that MAX has been around. When you walked in, there was video game stations set up with arcade games and consoles spanning the years. I was walking around and seen they had Texas Hold em tables set up. Since they just started letting people in, I was able to sit at the outermost table. We got enough people and they began. Pretty uneventful at first, I won a few hands, but nothing big. Then, the Adobe guys came over and said, Whoever wins the next hand gets a copy of the Adobe CS3 Master Collection. Everyone was pretty psyched. I got JS and 7C for my two cards and it ended up I made my inside straight. I kept pushing hard and three people pushed all in. Turns out two other people had a 7 and we chopped the pot three ways. The Adobe guys were great. They gave all of us copies of the collection. Its the full version of the applications for Windows and a value of about $2,400.

I was asked to stand up, seeing that it was just for fun and I made out like a bandit. I didn’t mind. The other guys didnt want to get up, even though there was a bunch of people waiting to play. On my way out, I got 9H and 5D. The flop came down; 7, 3, Q, 4th street was a 6 and the river was an 8. I made the straight with absolute crap. It was a nice parting farewell to the table.

The middle of the event was covered with a sheet and wasnt very obvious, but it was a stage. Half way into the event, the sheet raised and none other than Richard Cheese and Lounge Against the Machine played all the favorites. They are infamous for lounge-style covers of popular songs like, Smells Like Teen Spirit, Baby Got Back, and Chop Suey to name a few. They totally rocked. I love their sound and have most of their albums. Definitely worth checking out.

I also had class earlier in the day, I had the follow classes today:

Working With Data Feeds

ColdFusion 8 can handle RSS feeds with the new <cffeed> tag. Ray Camden led the presentation showing us the nuances and pitfalls of the tag. Apparently when you consume a feed with the tag, CF creates fields that accommodate both Atom and RSS standard feeds. You can also create feeds with the tag, but the page has the .cfm extension instead of .rss or .xml. I create have been creating feeds for the last three years by using the <cfsavecontent> tag with , a <cfquery> loop and then I would use <cfftp> to send the file to the site. My method still seems to be more efficient opposed to using the new tag. Ill post my code in a future post.

An Introduction to ColdFusion Powered Flex

Once again we were shown how ColdFusion 8 and Flex play nice together. Flex can create the .cfcs to be used in the rich applications.

Online Ads That Attract

I had some kind of conflict with my schedule and was not allowed into the class. Some other people had the same problem. Oh, well.

Tomorrow, I have the following classes:

  • XML 101
  • Introduction to the Spry framework for Ajax
  • ColdFusion 8 Crash Course

Ill post on the Sneaks later with links. Im dosing off.
