StumbleUpon traffic is great for a new site
Many people including Rand Fishkin at SEOmoz.org have raved about the volume of traffic they recieve from StumbleUpon.com. On many cases, the number of StumbleUpon referrals out number those of the major search engines.
This blog is no exception. Since transferring a small handful of blog posts to this domain less than two weeks ago, 50% of my traffic has come from StumbleUpon and less than 2% from Google, Yahoo, MSN and Ask combined. I have received a bunch of clicks from a mention on reddit.com that recieved “arrow up’s.”
I seeded a few of the blog posts myself. That simply means I clicked the “I like it!” button in my StumbleUpon toolbar while on the page of the post. Also, I tagged those posts using the toolbar. You can choose up to five tags to be associated with the page you are viewing. I believe this helps to bring traffic as well as the giving the post a thumbs up.
In my experience StumbleUpon traffic is good for eyeballs, not so much for conversions. If my site was purposed to be revenue generating, then I wouldn’t think too much of the volume of visitors coming in from StumbleUpon. Eyeballs are where it’s at right now for this blog and it seems like StumbleUpon is sending them my way.

I’ve had some great success in getting people to view some of my animations using StumbleUpon. In one particular weekend I had over 10,000 views for an animation I did about the Wii.
You’re absolutely correct about conversions though, that’s not what StumbleUpon’s about. Consider how most users use the utility: click the toolbar, decide in 5 seconds if you’ll stay for a bit, maybe noodle around, click the toolbar again. Just like that, they’re gone.
For me a conversion is getting somebody to sign up for a free newsletter. In that 10,000 page view weekend I had zero sign ups.
I agree with you. StumbleUpon can certainly help get the word out about a new site. A great way of starting while you are waiting for the search engines to kick in.

I like stumble upon. They send me a bunch of traffic to my blogs.
I agree on both counts. StumbleUpon brings huge traffic and it does not convert. My question what is the point of the traffic if it does not convert? Seems like a waste of bandwidth to me.
