Recently, BrianChappell over at Marketing Pilgrim posted his list of 75+ Internet Marketing Gurus on Twitter. The list was a good slice of the prominent internet marketers. He stated before the list if you weren’t on the list then comment below.
Well, as of writing this post, there were 163 comments, all in less than 48 hours. I wasn’t in the original list. Rightly so, I think I’m far from being called a guru or expert, but I did comment and add my Twitter ID. I have received over 15 followers and have followed just as many. New followers and mutual friends mean more people that you can ask for advice, discussion news, and ask favors. I think it makes for a powerful resource.
Twitter allows usage of their API that has spawned a vast number of third party applications. Mashable.com has composed TWITTER TOOLBOX: 60+ Twitter Tools to showcase some of the major applications. I use Twitter feed to post a tweet whenever I have a new blog post. Twhirl is a great Twitter client that runs on the Adobe Air platform. It gives me visual notifications of new tweets so I don’t have to keep refreshing the site.
If you don’t have a Twitter account already, go ahead and give it a try. Get comfortable with expressing yourself in 140 characters or less and search around for friends. That’s the concept of micro-blogging; short messages much like a chat application. Twitter has a feature for searching through your Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail, etc. contacts for people that are already signed up with the service. It is a nice way to quickly get in on the conversations. When you sign up, add me as a friend and I will reciprocate.
True, Twitter isn’t all business, but it is nice to interact with your friends whether it’s telling them how the many inches of snow you are getting or your latest thoughts on a link bait idea.
